Does this sound familiar?
Most couples wait a long time before asking for help, if you recognise yourselves below counselling can give you a clearer path than ground around in circles.
Small disagreements turn into big fights, or silence.
You feel like housemates or co-parents, not partners.
One of you feels criticised and the others feels shut out.
Trust has been damaged and you don’t know how to rebuild it.
You’re planning a big step, like marriage, moving in, or a baby and want a strong start. But you don’t know how to make that happen.
What is the Gottman Method?
The Gottman Method is a structured approach to couples therapy built on decades of research by Doctors John and Julie Gottman. Rather than guessing what is wrong, we start with a careful assessment of where your relationship is strong and where it needs support.
Their Sound Relationship House describes what healthy couples build together: friendship and knowledge of each other at the base, ways of handling conflict in the middle and shared meaning at the top. We work through its level by level, so you get specific skills you can use at home not just a place vent.
The approach is suitable for couples of all ages, cultures and sexual orientation. Here’s what to expect when working with Embodied Haus using the Gottman Method for your relationship.
What to expect
A clear process, so you and your partner know what each session is for.
Step 1: Schedule a 15 FREE call to talk about what’s going on and check if we’re a good match.
Step 2: Joint session: In this session you and your partner will discuss your relationship history, strengths and issues you want help with. [90 minutes]
Step 3: Assessment: You each complete a confidential online questionnaire, and I meet with you individually for 30-45 minutes for a short session.
Step 4: Feedback and Planning: I share what the assessment shows, and we agree on goals and a plan that fits your relationship goals.
Step 5: Weekly/fortnightly sessions where you practise news ways to talk, repair and reconnect. Most couples attend 6- 10 sessions to see long lasting results.
**If you prefer to the initial assessment through 60-minute sessions it may take up to 4-5 hours of weekly/sessions prior to starting couple’s therapy.
Is the Gottman Method the right fit for us?
It can help you with practical tools for communication, conflict resolution and rebuilding intimacy.
Are adjusting to big life events or struggling with prioritising each other putting you into the flat mate zone.
Feeling distant, disconnected, but wanting to make it work.
Gottman therapy works best when both partners are willing to take part and practise between sessions. It is not designed as a crisis service.
If you feel unsafe in your relationship, or there is family or domestic violence, joint therapy may not be appropriate. Please speak with our reception team or call 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732 for confidential support. Individual sessions can be a safer place to start.
Hi I’m Tarini
I’m Tarini, owner and couple’s therapist at Embodied Haus, trained in Gottman Level 1. I work with busy couples in their 30s–60s who want to get their relationship back on track. I help them spot recurring patterns, change unhelpful behaviours, and practice new skills through hands-on role modelling each session so they leave feeling clearer and more connected.
I have 10 years’ clinical experience and offer weekly or fortnightly sessions for couples who are committed to change, growth, and mutual accountability. I use a direct, research-based approach drawn from the Gottman Method, typically supporting couples to make meaningful progress in around 6–10 sessions.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time catching up with friends, listening to podcasts, watching TV shows, attempting to cook (not my strong suit), long drives with music, reading biographies or simply being.
